Justice for Harar

Australian Harari community has taken the first global initiative to protest to what is currently happening in Harar, Ethiopia and some called it - “Silent Genocide”.

They will travel full day to reach the capital of Australia (Canberra) and speak to the Ambassador of Ethiopia and address their concerns directly.

Hundreds of people are expected to participate in this demonstration. "Justice for Harar" motivated the Harari Australians in large numbers. Men, Women and children will be traveling by bus covering almost 700km. All come from different walks of life to join the rally and to show their solidarity with Harar and the Harari people back in Ethiopia.

According to the organizers, the 6 buses that were arranged for the rally were quickly filled up and had to turn down a number of people who were late to register their names by the due date. However, many have decided to drive in small groups and some by plane to reach their destination in time.

The Australian Harari society demand include: “Justice for Harar and Harari people”, “peace and security for the people of Harar”, “ Stop The Silent Genocide” and most importantly a swift response to the immediate water and garbage (sanitation) problems the city is currently facing and bring those who are responsible to justice.

According to Mr. Ibrahim, one of the protesters who is going to Canberra this week said: "the Harari Society in Australia had attempted to unite the community in the past; what makes it different this time round is the fast that When it comes to the safety and security of their people in Harar, the whole community willingly came together and showed tremendous unity and this by itself is a great achievement going forward”. “I would like to thank the organizers and particularly the "Australian Harari Council" for their outstanding job in organizing this rally and importantly, uniting the Harari community in Australia against injustice" he said.

The rally will be held in Canberra (The capital of Australia) on 6th of November 2018.
